Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator: Holly Keets
At Sturminster Marshall preschool, we are committed to providing an inclusive environment where every child, regardless of their individual needs, is welcomed and valued. We endeavour to offer a place to any child with special educational needs, provided we are able to ensure a positive experience of learning through play. Our ethos is centred on inclusion, and we strive for all children to participate fully in all activities wherever possible.
Legal and Statutory Framework
Our approach is guided by the following key documents and legislation:
- Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice: 0 to 25 years (2015)
- Equality Act 2010
- Children and Families Act 2014 (Part 3)
- Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014
- Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
- United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)
- Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023)
Our Commitment to Inclusion
We believe that every child is unique and has the right to access high-quality early years education. Our inclusive practice ensures that all children, including those with special educational needs or disabilities, are supported to reach their full potential. We recognise the importance of removing barriers to learning and participation, and we aim to adapt our provision accordingly.
Curriculum Adaptation and Individual Support
Where necessary, we will modify the curriculum and environment to meet the individual needs of each child. This may include adapting activities, resources, or routines to ensure that all children can engage meaningfully in play and learning. Decisions regarding curriculum modifications will be made on an individual basis, in consultation with parents, carers, and relevant professionals.
Partnership with Families and Professionals
We value strong partnerships with families and welcome open communication regarding each child’s needs. We will work collaboratively with parents, carers, and external agencies to develop effective strategies and support plans. Our aim is to ensure that every child’s experience at Sturminster Marshall prechool is positive, inclusive, and fulfilling.
