The children have been spending more time playing and learning outside and are particularly enjoying the mud kitchen and garden. They are pleased to see that out potatoes have

broken through the soil and are growing leaves.  Children learn and remember hands on experiences such as gardening and make connections across the areas of learning and development in the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

It's that time again when we are planning for the oldest children to learn more about the first school. As part of this transition progress the children will change for a weekly PE lesson in the school hall, visit the reception class and join in with playtime with Preschool practitioners nearby.

We are also planning a sponsored move-a-thon for the children to raise funds for sports equipment, a trip to Farmer Palmers and a Teddy Bears Picnic.

If you have a child aged between 12 months and school age, please contact us to discuss our setting and your needs for childcare. We are a small, friendly setting and have both local children and children from further afield attending.

With Christmas seeming a distant memory, we welcomed back all the children, along with some new ones, in January. They have enjoyed telling their friends about all their lovely gifts and the wonderful experiences they have shared over the festive period.

Our PE sessions are now in full swing for children due to start school in September. This is such a unique but valuable experience we are able to offer to our children. They have enjoyed running, kicking and catching a ball and balancing in the first few sessions. These sessions not only aid the transition to school but also is a great way for the children to exercise in the safe environment of the school hall.

Although the weather has been a little unsettled, we have managed to get outside most days. Of course, this is aided with puddle suits and Wellington boots! It’s great for the children to spend time in our outside spaces and in the fresh air.

November has whizzed by!  We started the month, making glitter firework pictures and tissue paper bonfires.  Next we remembered all the fallen heroes on Remembrance Day.  We did a minute’s silence, coloured in poppies and made our own too.  The following week was anti-bullying week, so we started the week wearing odd socks to pre-school and shared lots of stories about being kind and celebrating difference.  Children supported children in need by wearing Pudsey clothes or something spotty and donated to the charity.  In the final week, our Christmas tree has gone up and has been decorated with some homemade crafts! There’s tinsel and glitter everywhere you look, and lots of singing practice, ready for our Christmas singing and party on the last day of term.

The colder weather has meant we’ve wrapped up warm and been out in the playground, on the trampolines, trikes, cars and scooters, lots of physical movement to keep ourselves warm.

We offer care and education for children from 12 months. We open from 8.45am to 3.15pm to coincide with school hours and enable drop off and pick up of siblings around school times.

It’s been a busy few weeks at preschool.  The summer holidays are a distant memory and we are beginning to look forward to the planning of Christmas and the end of what’s been another unusual year.

We have been enjoying the last bit of warmth from the October sun, spending long afternoons in our garden or playground area. We have even managed a few walks and trip to the local park.

The children have been learning about autumn, making artwork from leaf rubbing and having discussions about harvest time.

In the final week leading to our half term break, we have been pumpkin carving, and made a spooky wall display.

We offer care and education for children from 12 months. We open from 8.45am to 3.15pm to coincide with school hours and enable drop off and pick up of siblings around school times.

Please contact us if you have a child due to start, want to book a visit or to discuss your child’s need and to find out about the Government funding available to you.

On our last day we said our final goodbye to our school leavers. We had a walk and play at the park, fun water activities at preschool and then a teddy bears picnic.

We are all sad to be saying goodbye to those leaving us this year to start their school journey, but we wish them well in their future learning.

It’s been a busy return from the May half term. We began with practice for annual sports day. It’s unfortunate that covid restrictions meant we could not have families to spectate but the children still enjoyed the day. They each completed 5 events and families were asked to sponsor each child to help fundraise for the preschool.  They all did super and enjoyed a cooling ice lolly once they’d finished.

Our garden is now in full bloom. The children have loved watering the flowers every day and pulling out any weeds.  The vegetable patch is looking a little less enthusiastic but with a little more TLC I’m sure we’ll have something to try over the coming weeks!

Being lucky enough to have two outdoor spaces, a tarmac playground and a grassy garden, we have the beauty of choosing which area to use depending on what type of play the children would like. We use bikes, trikes and scooters out on the playground. And the garden has a large covered sandpit, slides and climbing frames. The children have favoured the garden, and plenty of water play to splash about in, to cool down

Our older children who will be starting school in September are now meeting with Mrs Hockham, the Reception teacher in Sturminster Marshall First School, once a week to ensure all children are as prepared as possible for their next stage of learning. This has been more difficult this year due to Covid 19 but the children are embracing the opportunities we can safely provide until further guidance is given.
