Pre-School News

October 19

It has been a busy start to the term, welcoming the children back, and some new families, into preschool.  It’s amazing to see how quickly they all settle back into the routines of the setting.

We have made the most of the continued warmer weather, spending time out in our playground, enjoying some new toys and joining in with ring games.  Inside, the children have enjoyed the home corner and playing with the dolls and pushchairs.    We have learnt a new song for our circle time, which the children have learnt very quickly.  We’ve introduced ‘story of the week,’ and the children have been very enthusiastic when joining in with activities related to these stories.

We are already beginning school readiness with our preschoolers.  This includes encouragement when trying new things and promoting independence.  It’s scary to already be thinking about school but it comes around so quickly, and we want this transition to go as smoothly as possible.

If you have a child aged between 2 and school age please contact us to discuss our setting and your needs for childcare.  We are a small, friendly setting and have both local children and children from further afield attending.  Great friendships are made at Sturminster Marshall Preschool, many lasting well beyond the years of education.

The Pre-school is open:-

The children have now settled well into the term, with the 6 weeks holidays being a distant memory now.  The autumn changes have been welcomed by most.  We have discussed the changes in colour of the leaves and talked about harvest time.

We have done plenty on leaf collecting to make collages and leaf rubbings, and walking around the village to collect conkers.

The change in the weather has sometimes caused us to dash under the shelter between rain storms, but with some wellies and a rain coat, we have managed to spend a lot of time outside still.

The children have really enjoyed our ‘story of the week’.  One week we spent time baking gingerbread men, using the timers to time how long it took the gingerbread man to run away and made our role play into our very own bakery.

The next week, we climbed Jacks beanstalk and ended up in a castle on top of the clouds.  The children noticed the difference in size between the giants huge household items and those little ones in Jacks house.  The children really learn the stories and can re-tell them in great detail, when they have had these immersive experiences.

We have also spent time making spooky decorations for our Halloween party.

August 2019

It’s hard to believe we have come to the end of another term and the academic year. We have certainly made the most of outdoor areas, enjoying this lovely weather and lots of water play!

The children all did very well in participating in their sports day. We were lucky to have the help of a sports coach, so had some new activities including, teddy throwing and teddy bears picnic. The children had so much fun and had a great turn out of family and friends to support and cheer on the children.

We also have enjoyed our annual outing to farmer palmers. We had a tractor ride and joined in with the animal feeding. The children, and grown ups had such fun.

On our last day we said our final goodbye to our school leavers. We had a walk and play at the park and then came back to preschool for our teddy bears picnic. The children were joined by some of their family and their teddies of course!

We are all sad to be saying goodbye to those leaving us this year to start their school journey, but we wish them well in their future learning.

July 2019

The cooler weather has meant less time in our garden but more time playing in our playground.  We are very lucky to have both playground and garden areas and spend time outside as often as we can.

The children have enjoyed riding the bikes, trikes and cars along our smooth new tarmac. When we’ve had to dash back inside between the showers, we have spent time listening and dancing to different types of music and discussing how it makes us feel. The children have been moving in different ways and also mark making to the music. We have also played instruments and explored how we can change the sounds.

Our rising 5’s have been enjoying P.E. sessions with a P.E. coach this term.  We have learnt some new skills, including using hockey sticks to control a ball, using hoops in different ways and climbing, balancing and jumping safely off the apparatus.

Soon we will all begin practicing for our much loved sports day too.

They have also been joining the school children for playtime and visiting their new reception class and teacher.  It’s great to have the opportunity to visit the school regularly, which allows for an easier transition into school.
